Object Compare
How to: Compare Two Folders |
The Windows file system is treated as an object hierarchy for comparison purposes,
just as other specialized objects such as DLLs and Databases are. Folders and Files
are described richly by properties, and can be compared using the same rules-based
logic as other specialized objects. For files, in addition to properties describing
the file, the file content can be compared as well, byte-for-byte.
To compare two folders and their sub folders:
- Open Object Compare, and select File -> Select Left Side from
the main menu.
- In the Select Left Side dialog, navigate into the Computer of interest
and select the folder to use as the base object.
- On the main menu, select File -> Select Right Side.
- In the Select Right Side dialog, navigate into the Computer of
interest and select the folder to use as the version object.
- To start the comparison, select File -> Start Comparison from
the main menu.
Note: The menu commands above are also available on the toolbar.
During the comparison, you can single click a row in the tree structure and the
properties describing the objects selected are displayed in the Properties
window. Properties that are different are highlighted accordingly.
