Object Compare How to: Compare files as binary files
When comparing objects as files, by default Object Compare uses the file size to
determine if two objects are different.
This default setting greatly improves performance
when comparing folders with large numbers of files. However, Object Compare provides
the means to compare same size files byte-by-byte, which guarantees an exact comparison.
To compare files as binary files:
Open Object Compare and select Tools -> Options from the main
menu.
In the Options dialog, select the General tab.
Check Compare same size files byte for byte to enable binary comparisons
of files.
Adjust the Comparison accuracy slider to determine the accuracy
of the binary comparison. Using the Slow setting ensures every
byte in each file is compared, and is recommended for an exact determination. Using
the Fast setting provides an estimate of the comparison based on
the bytes read so far.
