This topic describes how to share a rule between users of Object Compare. For information on creating rules, see How to: Create a rule to customize a comparison. Sharing a rule requires two steps: Exporting the rule from one Object Compare instance and importing the rule into another.

To export a rule:

• Open Object Compare, and select Rules -> Organize Rules from the main menu.
• In the Rules dialog, select the rules you want to share by holding down the Ctrl or Shift keys and selecting them with the mouse.
• Click the Export Rules toolbar button.
• In the Browse For Folder dialog, select the folder where you would like to save the rules. The rules are saved as plain Xml files.
• Select the OK button to save the rules.

To import a rule:

• Open Object Compare, and select Rules -> Organize Rules from the main menu.
• In the Rules dialog, click the Import Rules toolbar button.
• In the Import Rule dialog, select the rule file(s) you want to import. Click the Open button to import the rules.
• Select the OK button to save the rules.
